The town has a long history, dating back to the Revolutionary War. Clarksboro was initially part of Greenwich Township but became its own municipality in 1858. The name comes from Clarks Landing, a ferry landing on the Delaware River. Clarksboro was once a thriving industrial town, with several factories located here. But over the years, many of those factories have closed down. Today, Clarksboro is a quiet residential community.
